Taking an International Look at Education Policy

In her article “Looking Beyond Our Borders for National Arts Education Policies,” Talia Gibas explores the arts education policies inĀ Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany and South Africa to find out what lessons could be learned and implemented at the national level in the U.S.

Her research into these nations touches on three questions:

  • What policies and standards are in place at the national level regarding the arts in schools?
  • What dedicated funding streams are available (again, at the national level) for arts education during the school day?
  • What are the roles of federal versus state/municipal governments in implementing/monitoring education?
